Hello, I keep seeing your name mentioned here and there. According to the characteristics mentioned, I think I missed knowing someone I would have liked to know. Just taking a chance you may see this. Hope RL is a blessing to you. Sounds like you deserve many blessing as you blessed others.
Just in case you hadn't noticed yet, NancyArwin started this thread on the News and Announcements forum for not only the SSHM Wiki but also as a big thank you to you for all your hard work creating and maintaining it for so long. You might want to check it out when you get the chance. We love you, Foss! 👪💝👪💕👪💗👪❤👪💖👪
Hey SG, I don't have a Gabby Gamers account unfortunately. You can email instead:
I am a bit out of touch with everything so may not be much help but will see what I can do.
edit 17/09/2017 - I've deleted my yahoo account as yahoo were bought over by verizon and on the 18/09/2017 will violate all their users privacy by giving over all of the data collected on yahoo accounts to all verizon companies and partners. I will still check this wall occassionally so it is now the best place to get in contact with me.
I got an email message saying that you did something with my photo.
I don't understand what. I did have problems uploading the photo. It was asking (either before or after I selected the photo, I'm not sure which) whether it was to be a thumbnail or full-size photo. I didn't know which to choose. I have seen sometimes that the thumbnail was so small that you couldn't even see it, but when I chose the full size, it was way to gigantic, but I didn't want to start over, so I shrunk it by using the corner and going in diagonally until it was the size I wanted. I was too tired at the point after trying to figure out how to get links to work, that I just put it away and went to sleep.
Every image uploaded goes to the central storage at Special:Images, so in order for images to be easily found when needed, they are cateogrised. For profile images such as yours, I give them the Category:Community so that they are located with all other user uploaded non-game/wiki images. It is preferable that all images are given a unique and descriptive names (making it easier for you to find), so if an image has a default 'image129743760.jpg' style name that gives no indication what the image is, then I will also add Category:Requires_Renaming (this is more for my benefit than yours as groups everything together that may need work if housekeeping here). In your case, since your image was called "P1000068.jpg", it got both categories when I was going through recent uploads. But really, there is no need to worry about the emails saying I have added categories - it is something I do to organise things here (we already have 5,550 images uploaded and counting!) and not a criticism or a problem for you. It does not require any action on your part.
But it is helpful if images do have descriptive names when possible. You can rename images during the upload process if using a mobile device (as i know it is not always possible to control the name that images are stored with on mobile devices). In the "more options" drop down of the screen that asks you to browse and find the image you want there is a "file name" section and you can type anything there and that will become the name once the image is uploaded. Alternatively you can leave me a message giving the name you want and I can change the name after the image is uploaded.
In terms of the sizing, I think you did it correctly. Choosing thumb allows you to control the size being displayed (rather than full size which is just one size). Then resize as needed to fit the page/post it is being used on.
We have help pages here (see Help:Contents) which can sometimes be helpful if trying to do something but hitting a brick wall in the confusing software! Help:Images and Help:Links might help with your profile but the image looks great the way it is right now, and links are working when I check so I think you are probably all sorted already!
I found this message from you from so long ago. I realize now that I never did thank you for taking the time to answer me so completedly. I have since uploaded so many interesting, thought provoking and just plain fun images and I've always remembered to carely name the files before the upload. Thank you so much for your help that has made my experience on this wiki special :-)) - El
Thanks MD, but I have my own lists that I need to update. My lists are available in the Andalay's Aids thread in the Announcements forum. I also need to do the same for Seeker's Notes. And I should update the SN wiki. 😝
I just disable sorting, quick scroll (drag the bar) down to bottom of list and work my way back up through new collections, since all at end. Occassionally, I reference one or two game files to get information about the hidden collections, but I find that more tedious than going through list due to how it is set up. More often than not there is only 16 new collections so it doesn't take long to do it by hand, so I have never had suffiecient incentive to look for a better way (other than original population of the lists here when hundreds had to be added). The newest SS collections are all on the wiki lists now though so you could just copy those to save time for SN?
I have both SS and SN on windows 8, never had an issue without the upgrade? But those updates are so far behind I tend to access everything on the iPad instead, which is easy for me since I keep all my iOS devices on iOS 7 so am not blocked from accessing the sandbox (that came with 8.3)
Every SN update changes a million pointless things. It is nearly impossible to keep up with if trying to keep an acurate record of everything. I had assumed they would eventually settle down the little changes, but no sign of it yet. At this point I've lost count of all the different versions of the pictures that have come and gone, never mind the collections that constantly change and randomly rotate between being giftable and non-giftable.....okay that sounds harsh, it is great that they are constantly striving for improvement. Just a lot of work if trying to keep up, which is one of the reasons I stopped trying,
I'm sticking with Win 7. My iPad is new, so it's on the latest OS. Mac would probably be my best option if I decide that a desktop machine with access to the files is the way to go.
The latest update to SN has a lot of people upset. I think MyTona is trying to find a good balance to the game and I don't think this release will be successful in that either.
Not only have they done a major overhaul to the game mechanics, they have a new location called the Treasury that has two different styles for several items in the scene! I have no clue what they are doing.
Hi Fossiliferous, I've been eagerly reading all the new content you've added about the new quests and challenges, and I never really realized just how much work you put into this Wiki until today. Wow, you are amazing!! And I very much appreciate it! It's so much fun reading all the new info, especially since I'm on Android and don't have the update yet. So anyway, just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work. You're the best!
Thanks for the nice message, it really does help to hear people are reading! To be honest the wiki isn't much work, yes there are they feverish weeks when updates released, but the pressure to get information ready quickly is definitey self imposed and could easily be spaced out more. The rest of the time is fairy laid back other than hunting for the 100 little things that each update changes (with no real impact to game but mean some information here also needs to be found and changed) and that job seems endless as the game always subtley changing (a good thing!).
