The Vacation by the Sea Timed Challenges are a set of Timed Challenges potentially added to the game by the Celebration by the Bonfire Update. This update was released on the 21st of June 2016 for iOS players; on the 23rd of June 2016 for Android players; on the 29th of June 2016 for Kindle players; and on the 18th of July 2016 for Windows players.
When the update was released, the Celebration by the Bonfire Timed Challenges triggered automatically. The Vacation by the Sea Timed Challenges may appear in the game some time after these first Timed Challenges end.
Although there is no mention of the Vacation by the Sea Timed Challenges in the release notes for the Celebration by the Bonfire Update, all the content needed to create the second set of timed challenges exist within the original install file for the update.
There is currently no guarantee that this second set of challenges will trigger in the game as expected, as the new picture the challenges are based around, Tropical Evening, and the 5 collections used in the set of challenges, do not initially appear in the game, and instead appear to be hidden. It may be possible that the second set of timed challenges was aborted in development and the references to it in the game are remnants of the original plan. However, all the content that is needed for these challenges, such as information and images, is contained within the install file of the Celebration of the Bonfire Update, so it is also possible that they are just hidden until the event launches. It does not appear that another update would be necessary for these timed challenges to start, since all the content needed for them was included in the original update install.
This is the first time that an update has added enough content to the game to contain two different challenges like this, and it is also the first time that a significant amount of content held within an update appears to be hidden from the game when it is first installed.
For iOS devices, the Vacation by the Sea timed challenges are initially set to start on the 28th of July 2016 (at 23:59 UTC) and end on the 25th of August 2016 (lasting 28 days total).
Important: This information cannot be fully confirmed until the expected start date of the second timed challenges, and may be subject to change. It is possible that these Timed Challenges may never appear in the game.
Vacation by the Sea Challenge[]
The Vacation by the Sea timed challenges are potentially the second of two sets of timed challenges introduced by the Celebration by the Bonfire Update. These timed challenges are set to trigger a certain amount of time after the Celebration by the Bonfire timed challenges end.
The Vacation by the Sea timed challenges is set to begin when a player reaches game level 7 in the game (or automatically after triggering if the player is already above level 7).
The Vacation by the Sea timed event contains 3 challenges. Players have a set number of days to complete the following tasks:
- Collect 500 Pearls by winning games of Blocks to open the Magic Marine Jewelry Box and win a number of rewards (Large Pandora's Chest, Super Winged Lightning Talismans, Leprechaun's Pot o' Gold Talisman, Friend's support Talisman, Donut Energy item, Ice Cream Energy item, and a Cappuccino Energy item).
- Complete 30 holiday quests to win the once-off Talisman of the Sun, which increases energy recovery up to 5 times for 24 hours.
- Achieve 'Academician' level in Tropical Evening to win a unique avatar.
For the duration of the Vacation by the Sea challenge, Sunglasses special items are required in addition to energy points to play Tropical Evening. Sunglasses are given as rewards for every successful investigation for every picture (except Tropical Evening itself!), and as rewards for banishing anomalies, but not for playing puzzles. Sunglasses cannot be gifted between friends, however they can be given as rewards by the Sphere of Miracles and Pyramid of Wonder.
Important: The amount of time available for the Vacation by the Sea timed challenges will vary across platforms. It is important to note that the Challenge timer begins counting down from the moment the challenges are set to trigger in the game, and not from the moment a player downloads the update. Delaying installing the update will not give you extra time to play the challenges.
The Blocks Challenge - collecting Pearls[]
Players can open the Magic Marine Jewelry Box and win a number of rewards by collecting 500 Pearls. Pearls can only be won by successfully completing the Blocks puzzle. For each successful win of Blocks, you can potentially win between 2-5 Pearls as one of the rewards for completing the puzzle.
The Magic Marine Jewelry Box contains the following rewards:
- Large Pandora's Chest x1 (Chest)
- Super Winged Lightning x1 (Talisman)
- Leprechaun's Pot o' Gold x1 (Talisman)
- Friend's support x1 (Talisman)
- Donut x1 (Energy Item)
- Ice Cream x1 (Energy Item)
- Cappuccino x1 (Energy Item)
The Unique Avatar - Getting Tropical Evening to Academician Level[]
Players can win the Unique Avatar by playing the new picture, Tropical Evening, until they increase its scene progress level up to Academician Level during the Vacation by the Sea time sensitive challenge.
For the duration of the Celebration by the Bonfire Update, Sunglasses special items are needed for each play of the Tropical Evening picture.
While the Timed Challenges are active (before you complete all three, or the timer expires, whichever happens first), Sunglasses are given as rewards for every successful investigation for every picture in the game. Between 2 and 6 Sunglasses are given for every game you win.
Sunglasses are also given as rewards for banishing anomalies, but not for playing puzzles. Sunglasses cannot be gifted between friends. Players with the Pyramid of Wonder or Sphere of Miracles also have a 1 in 6 chance of receiving Sunglasses from these Desktop Awards when collecting their rewards every 12 hours. The number of Sunglasses needed for each play of Tropical Evening increases as you increase the Picture Levels of Tropical Evening (+5 Sunglasses per Level increase), starting at 5 Sunglasses per play when the picture is opened at Novice Level and increasing to 40 Sunglasses per play when the picture is at Professor Level.
The Challenge Quests and the Talisman of the Sun[]
The Talisman of the Sun Talisman can be won once a player completes all 30 of the special Vacation by the Sea challenge quests. The quests must be completed within the time limit of the Timed Challenge in order to unlock the Talisman.
Once the quests are completed, the Talisman of the Sun automatically goes into your inventory, and a new page of the Diary page will open.
A notification screen will appear to say that the 30 challenge quests are complete and you have won the Talisman of the Sun, but you must go to the Talisman section of the Inventory itself to see and use the new Talisman.
Once activated, the Talisman of Sun increases the rate of energy recovery up to 5 times for 24 hours.
Winning the Talisman of the Sun[]
A special decorative border in the quest list marks the 30 quests needed to win the Talisman of the Sun. Other quests added by the update, with regular gold borders, do not count towards the 30 when completed.
The special 30 quests that must be completed in order to win the Talisman of the Sun consist of 5 collection sequences of 6 quests each. The first 5 quests of each sequence are to find each of the 5 items belonging to one new collection added by the update. The 6th quest is to combine the collection.
The 5 collections players gather as they complete the 30 quests are:
- A place in the sun (combines to create "Beach tent" and rewards 10 Sunglasses when combined)
- Ice tea (combines to create "Ice tea" and rewards 15 Sunglasses when combined)
- Mysterious poster (combines to create "Mysterious poster" and rewards 20 Sunglasses when combined)
- Beach volleyball (combines to create "Summer Cup Trophy" and rewards 25 Sunglasses when combined)
- Summer Festival (combines to create "Mysterious suit" and rewards 30 Sunglasses when combined)
Note: Just like the Tropical Evening Picture itself, these collections do not currently appear in the game, however all of the content needed for them was installed on player's devices when the Celebration by the Bonfire Update was installed.

After the Challenge is complete[]
Once you complete all three Vacation by the Sea Challenges, or after the challenge timer expires, Sunglasses may are restricted so that they will only be won in Japanese House and Amusement Park instead of in all the Pictures like during the Timed Challenges.
Although not exactly part of the the event, completion of all 30 event quests afforded the first opportunity to conbine the Sea Amulet Artifact.
