Energy

Each Picture investigation and Puzzle game costs Energy points to play.

The number of energy points required varies between pictures/puzzles (with the pictures/puzzles you unlock at highest levels costing the most for each play) and also increases as the level of the picture/puzzle increases.

Pictures that contain anomalies cost additional energy points to play, unless you banish the anomaly before playing.

You can find your current number of energy points at the top centre of your Home Desktop (number 5 in the Home Desktop picture to the right).

Note: Energy Points are different to Strength points. Using weights that restore strength points will not increase your energy points. Strength points are used to charge your friends pictures and awards when visiting them.

Energy Level and Maximum Energy

Number 5 in the picture of a Home Desktop above shows your current and maximum energy points in the form: current energy points/maximum energy points. In the example in the picture, the player has 617 out of a maximum 290 energy points available (clearly this player hasn't been playing very many pictures!).

Your maximum energy points increase by 5 for each level you increase in the game. You can also increase your maximum by using a Dinner (restores all energy and adds 10 points to your maximum) or a Holiday event equivalent of a Dinner (restores all energy and adds 15 points to your maximum, e.g. the Gingerbread House from the Christmas Update).

Energy Restoration

Your energy points restore slowly over time and are restored to maximum every time you reach a new level in the game.

Your energy recovers over time at a rate of 1 energy point every 3 minutes. The clock under your energy points (number 6 in the picture of a Home Desktop) shows how much time is left before a new energy point is restored.

Once you reach your maximum, the clock stops and your energy will not start restoring again until your energy points drop below the maximum level again. However, you can still gain energy points from awards or by using Food items in your inventory, and these will still be added to your current total energy points, even if the total is more than your maximum (see the example in the Home Desktop picture above, the player has 617 energy points, even though their clock has stopped restoring energy since they are above their maximum of 290 points).

You can increase the rate your energy restores for a short period of time by using Talismans you can win in the game such as Winged Lightning (triples energy recovery for 30 minutes) and Super Winged Lightning (increases energy recovery rate by 5 for 90 minutes) or using Talismans you can buy in the shop for crystals such as Angel Wings (increases energy recovery rate by 10 for 2 hours). The Witch's Talisman Artefact triples the rate of energy point restoration like the regular Winged Lightning Talisman, but for 24 hours instead of 30 minutes. (This means that the Super Winged Lightning is still the best energy restoration tool available to win in the game). You can leave a Super Winged Lightening running at night while your device is on standby and energy will increase overnight.

Using Food to Restore Energy

As you play pictures and puzzles your energy supply will be reduced by the cost of each play. Once you run out of energy points you must either wait for your energy points to restore at a rate of 1 energy point every 3 minutes (or faster if you are using Talismans/Artefacts) or you can use Food items you win in the game or buy using crystals to restore some of your energy so you can continue playing.

If you try to press the research button on a picture or puzzle investigation when you do not have the required amount of energy points you will be given the option to use a food item in your inventory, buy the food item you require in the shop for crystals, or given the amount of time you must wait to earn the energy required to play. You can use food items at any point in the game by pressing the inventory icon on your Home Desktop to open your Inventory and selecting the Energy tab. Pressing the icon for any food item you have in your inventory will bring up a box describing what the item does, which awards reward the item and how many you currently have in your inventory.

During time restricted Holiday events added by certain updates there may be additional food items available to win in the game. There are usually 6 new food items which are holiday themed. These items restore equivalent amounts of energy as the normal food items, but each one restores slightly more energy than their non-holiday equivalent:

During the Valentines update, the holiday food items only reward extra energy for the first 2 days of the event for iOS devices. After that, they only awarded 4 or 5 energy points. G5 games have reported that this move was on purpose, and the extra points the Valentines food items restored at the beginning of the Valentines Challenge was a time sensitive special treat to launch the event. However, this change in value of the items from standard holiday equivalent values to 4-5 energy points only affected iOS devices, all other platforms that received the update continued to receive the correct amount after the first few days of the challenge. Additionally, these items were restored to their original energy values by the following Tavern Update, and any left in an iOS player's inventory went back to giving the correct amount of energy once they updated to the Tavern update.
