Christmas 2013 Update

The Christmas update was released on the 13th of December 2013 for iOS players and on the 19th of December 2013 for Android players. It was the second Holiday Themed update released for the game.

The Christmas update introduced a new picture, Christmas Eve, a new mini game, Match-3 (now called Gem Match), new collections, new quests, and for Android players it introduced a glitch allowing them to send unlimited gifts to their friends. The unlimited gifting glitch for Android Players was removed by the Valentines Update and Android players are now restricted to sending 10 collection items and 50 free gifts a day like all other players.

The Christmas update was also the second time a set of holiday challenges were introduced: players had a limited time period (a few weeks) in which to complete tasks in the Christmas Holiday Event. The rewards for completing these tasks, such as earning the Pyramid of Wonder desktop award, were only available during this time period.

Christmas Holiday Event

The Christmas holiday event had 3 main challenges:

Reach Academician level in Gem Match to unlock the Pyramid of Wonder
Complete 30 holiday quests to win a once off holiday talisman and combine the 5 Christmas collections to create the Santa Amulet artefact
Reach Academician level on Christmas Eve to win Christmas Avatar

Playing Christmas Eve

For the duration of the Christmas challenge, Christmas Baubles were needed in addition to energy points to play Christmas Eve. Christmas Baubles were given as rewards for every successful investigation for every picture, but not for playing puzzles. The Sphere of Miracles and Pyramid of Wonder had a 1 in 4 chance of awarding Christmas Baubles for the duration of the Christmas event.

All of the quests for the Christmas Holiday event required successfully investigating Christmas Eve to find collection items needed to combine collections that formed part of the Santa's Amulet artefact.

A new set of elements to combine collections were also introduced with the Christmas Update. These elements are required to combine the Christmas quest collections and some of the other new collections introduced with the update. These elements can be won for successful investigations of Christmas Eve once the picture has been advanced to certain levels.

Pumpkin lanterns and Christmas baubles

The Halloween Update introduced Pumpkin lantern special items into the game, which were needed in addition to energy points for each play of the Witch's Hut picture for the duration of the Halloween Update. Pumpkin lanterns were given as rewards for every successful investigation of any picture (except Witch's Hut itself) and for banishing anomalies, but not for playing puzzles. The Sphere of Miracles had a 1 in 4 chance of awarding Pumpkin Lanterns for the duration of the Halloween event.

When a player updated their game from the Halloween Update to the Christmas Update, Pumpkin lanterns were removed from their game, and any remaining Pumpkin lanterns in the players inventory were converted into Fireflies, Ladybugs and Carrots. The Pumpkin lanterns were replaced by Christmas Baubles, which were new special items that were needed in addition to energy points to play the new picture introduced by the update - Christmas Eve. Christmas Baubles were given as rewards for every successful investigation for every picture (except for Christmas Eve itself) and for banishing anomalies, but not for playing puzzles. The Sphere of Miracles and Pyramid of Wonder had a 1 in 4 chance of awarding Christmas Baubles for the duration of the Christmas event.

The Valentines Update removed Christmas Baubles from the game and turned Christmas Eve into a regular game just requiring energy points to play. All remaining Christmas Baubles in a players inventory were converted into Fireflies, Ladybugs and Carrots once they updated their game to the Valentines Update.
