The Celebration by the Bonfire update was released on the 21st of June 2016 for iOS players; on the 23rd of June for Android players; the 29th of June for Kindle players; and on the 18th of July 2016 for Windows players.
One Update, Two Timed Challenge EventsEdit
Note: This information cannot be fully confirmed until the expected start date of the second timed challenges, and may be subject to change.
The Celebration by the Bonfire Update may be unique in updates to the game, as it appears to contain not one but two different sets of Timed Challenges, each set to start on different dates after the update is released. The second set of Timed Challenges are not included in the update's release notes, however multiple references to additional content does exist in the content initially added by the update, such as in the Collections window, and all content needed to create the second set of timed challenges was included within the original install file for the update.
There is currently no guarantee that this second set of challenges will trigger in the game as expected, as the new picture the challenges are based around, Tropical Evening, and the 5 additional collections used in the set of challenges, do not initially appear in the game and instead appear to be hidden. It may be possible that the second set of timed challenges was aborted in development and the references to it in the game are remnants of the original plan. However, all the content that is needed for these challenges, such as information and images, are included within the install file of the Celebration of the Bonfire Update, so it is also possible that they are just hidden until the event launches. It does not appear that another update would be necessary for these timed challenges to start, since all the content needed for them was installed on players' devices when they installed the Celebration by the Bonfire Update.
This is the first time that an update has added enough content to the game to contain two different challenges, and it is also the first time that a significant amount of content held within an update appears to be hidden from the game when it is first installed.
The timed challenges are:
- Celebration by the Bonfire Challenge - launches when update is initially installed, 21st June 2016 for iOS players. Introduces the Camping Site hidden object picture. Contains 3 different challenges with unique prizes for players to win.
- Vacation by the Sea Challenge - set to trigger a short period after the Celebration by the Bonfire Challenge's official timer ends (currently set to 28th of July at 23:59 UTC for iOS devices). Introduces the Tropical Evening hidden object picture. Contains 3 different challenges with unique prizes for players to win.
The Tropical Evening Picture and the 5 additional collections needed for the Vacation by the Sea Timed Challenges do not currently appear in the game, but all their information and images do appear in the game files so they may just be hidden on purpose until the trigger date.
Celebration by the Bonfire Challenge Edit
Main Page: Celebration by the Bonfire Timed Challenges
The Celebration by the Bonfire timed challenges are the first of two sets of timed challenges introduced by the Celebration by the Bonfire Update. These timed challenges are triggered immediately after the update was released.
The Celebration by the Bonfire timed challenges begin when a player reaches game level 7 in the game (or automatically after downloading the update if the player is already above level 7).
The Celebration by the Bonfire timed event contains 3 challenges. Players have a set number of days to complete the following tasks:
- Collect 500 Butterflies by winning games of Gem Match to open the Magic Summer Jewelry Box and win a number of rewards (Medium Pandora's Chest, some Talismans, some Energy items and a Power item).
- Complete 30 holiday quests to win the once-off Talisman of the Bonfire Talisman which stops Night mode appearing for 48 hours! Upon completing these quests you will also be able to combine the Pathfinder's Amulet Artefact, which increases a player's luck in winning items by 30% for 48 hours.
- Achieve 'Academician' level in Camping Site to win a unique avatar.
For the duration of the Celebration by the Bonfire challenge, Dandelion special items are required in addition to energy points to play Camping Site. Dandelions are given as rewards for every successful investigation for every picture (except Camping Site itself!), and as rewards for banishing anomalies, but not for playing puzzles. Dandelions cannot be gifted between friends, however they are given as rewards for combining some of the new Celebration by the Bonfire collections, and they can be given as rewards by the Sphere of Miracles and Pyramid of Wonder.
Important: The amount of time available for the Celebration by the Bonfire timed challenges will vary across platforms. It is important to note that the Challenge timer begins counting down from the moment the update is released in a device's app store, and not from the moment a player downloads the update. Delaying installing the update will not give you extra time to play the challenges.
For iOS devices, the Celebration by the Bonfire timed challenges are initially set to start on the 20th of June 2016 (at 23:59 UTC) and end on the 18th of July 2016 (lasting 28 days total).
Vacation by the Sea Challenge Edit
Main Page: Vacation by the Sea Timed Challenges
The Vacation by the Sea timed challenges are potentially the second of two sets of timed challenges introduced by the Celebration by the Bonfire Update. These timed challenges are currenty set to trigger 10 days after the Celebration by the Bonfire timed challenge's official timer ends.
It is not yet certain if the Vacation by the Sea timed challenges will appear in the game, however all the additional content needed for this set of timed challenges was installed on players' devices by the Celebration by the Bonfire Update.
The Vacation by the Sea timed challenges is set to begin when a player reaches game level 7 in the game (or automatically after triggering if the player is already above level 7).
The Vacation by the Sea timed event contains 3 challenges. Players have a set number of days to complete the following tasks:
- Collect 500 Pearls by winning games of Blocks to open the Magic Marine Jewelry Box and win a number of rewards (Large Pandora's Chest, Super Winged Lightning Talismans, Leprechaun's Pot o' Gold Talisman, Friend's support Talisman, Donut Energy item, Ice Cream Energy item, and a Cappuccino Energy item).
- Complete 30 holiday quests to win the once-off Talisman of the Sun, which Increases energy recovery up to 5 times for 24 hours.
- Achieve Academician' level in Tropical Evening to win a unique avatar.
For the duration of the Vacation by the Sea challenge, Sunglasses special items are required in addition to energy points to play Tropical Evening. Sunglasses are given as rewards for every successful investigation for every picture (except Tropical Evening itself!), and as rewards for banishing anomalies, but not for playing puzzles. Sunglasses cannot be gifted between friends, however they can be given as rewards by the Sphere of Miracles and Pyramid of Wonder.
For iOS devices, the Vacation by the Sea timed challenges are initially set to start on the 28th of July 2016 (at 23:59 UTC) and end on the 25th of August 2016 (lasting 28 days total).
The Spring Festival Update's Origami and Spring Festival Edit
As part of the Spring Festival Update, the picture Spring Festival required special items called Origami, in addition to energy points, for each play. The Origami were removed from the game as part of the Celebration by the Bonfire Update and Spring Festival is now a regular picture that just requires energy points to play. The Spring Festival collections that rewarded Origami as rewards for combining them were also changed to reward regular game items such as Tools and items to banish anomalies.
At the beginning of the Celebration by the Bonfire update, any remaining Origami in a player's Inventory are converted into equal parts Fireflies, Ladybugs, Carrots, Cupid arrows, and Tokens, the 5 main special items needed to player the regular paid scenes in the game.
Other Changes Made by the Celebration by the Bonfire UpdateEdit
Like the Spring Festival Update, the Celebration by the Bonfire Update has added 2 new Artefacts to the game. These can be seen in the Artefacts tab of the Collections Window (at the bottom of the list if sorting is disabled), and, once combined, can be activated from the Talismans tab of the Inventory Window.
The Pathfinder's Amulet, which players will combine and win as they work through the Celebration by the Bonfire Timed Challenges, increases the chances of winning items after winning Hidden Object Pictures and Puzzle games by 30% for 48 hours when activated.The Amulet of Rarities, which players can win by combining non-challenge related and giftable collections added by the update, decreases the number of Special Items that are needed to play certain pictures (e.g. Tokens to play Observation Deck by 20% for 24 hours. This Artefact is identical to the Amulet of Santa Artefact, and can potentially be a very powerful tool when playing Timed Challenge events such as the one added by the Celebration by the Bonfire Update.
Unfortunately, it may not possible to actually win the items needed to combine this artefact. Three of the collection's items (Daguere's camera, Antique Vase, and Clairvoyance potion) can be won by playing the new Camping Site picture. However, the other two collections (Magic Case and Strange Paintings) state that their collection items can be won in the Picture "Tropical Evening", and this picture does not appear to exist in the game. Tropical Evening is listed as picture number 37 in the game's files, indicating that the picture is intended to exist in the game, rather than being a reference to another picture in the game.
New Chests in ShopEdit
Two new Chests have been added to the Shop. The Guide's Chest costs 2000 crystals and contains 1000 Token Special Items, required to pay Observation Deck, and the Cupid's Chest costs 800 crystals and contains 1000 Cupid Arrow Special Items required to play Tree of Dates.
Problems with the Celebration by the Bonfire UpdateEdit
Tropical Evening LocationEdit
One of the new Artefacts added by the update, the Amulet of Rarities, may not possible to actually combine in the game as it requires the Tropical Evening location, which does not exist when the update is first installed. This may be intentional, if the update does include two different sets of timed challenges.
Three of the collection's items (Daguere's camera, Antique Vase, and Clairvoyance potion) can be won by playing the new Camping Site picture. However, the other two collections (Magic Case and Strange Paintings) state that their collection items can be won in the Picture "Tropical Evening", and this picture does not appear to exist in the game yet. Tropical Evening is listed as picture number 37 in the game's files, indicating that the picture is intended to exist in the game, rather than being a reference to another picture in the game.
Server Problems Gifting and Visiting Edit
As with all large updates released for the game, the Celebration by the Bonfire update will cause an overload in the games servers during peak times for a couple of days immediately following the release of the update on any platform. During this time players may encounter problems visiting and gifting, and be given a "Failure to connect to the servers" error message when trying to interact with the Friends portion of the game. The servers normally go back to normal after a couple of days once all players on that platform have downloaded the new update.
The Celebration by the Bonfire Update follows the same formula as all other updates released in the last 12 months.
Disproportionate work for rewards in Timed ChallengeEdit
Some players felt that the prizes which could be won by completing some of the timed challenges were not very valuable, considering the amount of a player's time and the amount of energy units which must be expended to complete the challenge.
Lack of diversity in 'Unique Avatars' rewarded in Timed Challenges Edit
The 'Unique Avatars' which could be won in the two Timed Challenges both depict white women. Players were again disappointed by the lack of diversity in skin tone and also that no challenge avatars have been male, to date. The Avatars page shows all avatars available in the game.
Glitches added by the Celebration by the Bonfire UpdateEdit
Gifting Glitch - Free gift already given indicatiorEdit
The Celebration by the Bonfire Update has added a small glitch to the gifting mechanism in the game. This glitch appears to intermittently and may not affect all players. When a player sends a free gift to a Friend, then all free gifts on that friend's wish list usually change from having a 1 beside them to having no number beside them, indicating that the player has already sent their one allowed free gift to that friend that day.
Now, when a player gifts a Friend a free gift the number will disappear beside all free gifts in their wishlist as expected, but will reappear as soon as the gifting window is closed. This means that going back to the gifting window for that friend there will be a 1 beside all free gifts in their wishlist, suggesting that they have not been sent a free gift that day. If the player tries to send another free gift to that Friend, they will get a message telling them they have already sent their one free gift to that Friend that day.
This means that players will no longer know which friends have been sent free gifts already and which have not, without trying to send the gift and waiting for the server response.
Gifting Glitch 2 - Free gift limit appearing to arrive earlyEdit
The Celebration by the Bonfire update has introduced a second glitch with the Free Gift system. Like the Free Gift indicator glitch above this problem is intermittent and may not be seen by all players. When a player reaches their 10 Collection gift limit in a gifting session, it suddenly appears that they have also reached their Free gift limit (regardless of how many Free Gifts they have given that day). For every Friend they attempt to gift, the Free gifts in the Friend's wishlist will be missing the little '1' indicator beside them.
However, Free gifts can still be given through the 'Send a Gift' tab and by tapping the icon in the Friend's wishlist, and the gifts will arrive safely to the Friend. It is just the wishlist indicators that stop working in these instances.
Collection Rewards IncorrectEdit
To date, this glitch has only been reported on Android and Kindle devices. When combining Collections, some will give different reward items than those expected and normally won when combining those Collections. Turning off sorting in the collections tab may fix the problem for some players, allowing them to get the correct rewards when combining again.
Glitches fixed by the Celebration by the Bonfire UpdateEdit
Hiring Magicians not WorkingEdit
The Spring Festival Update introduced a glitch to Hiring Friends. Hiring a Magician Profession Friend should reduce the amount of energy required for the next play of a Picture or Puzzle by 10%. Since the Spring Festival Update, this stopped working correctly. The amount of energy required for the play listed in the Research Window of the Picture or Puzzle does decrease as expected, however the amount of energy consumed by the play is the same amount as if you didn't hire the magician friend. Other professions appear to be unaffected by this issue.
The Celebration by the Bonfire Update has fixed this glitch, and hiring Magicians now reduces the energy used playing the next Picture or Puzzle as expected.
Mode dependent items won a play early Edit
This glitch had existed in the game since the Valentines 2014 Update, making it one of the longest existing problems in the game before the Celebration by the Bonfire Update finally fixed it.
This glitch impacted Collection Items whose regular play locations are determined by the mode the picture is in. Mode dependent items can only be won when playing pictures in a certain game mode, but can be won in any picture as long as it is in the correct mode. Originally introduced by the Valentines 2014 Update, this glitch resulted in mode dependent items being won when playing a picture the game before the picture changes into the right mode for those items instead of during the play of the correct mode as expected. This glitch impacted all mode dependent collections, but in particular, made it incredibly difficult to obtain collection items from the mode dependent collections related to anomalies.
The problem has now been solved and the items from these collections can now be won by playing the modes specified in their descriptions. Below is a list of all mode dependent Collections currently in the game, and mode required to be in with a chance of winning their items:
|Collection Name||When items become available to win||Reward for Combining|
|Venetian Masks||Text mode||The average weight x1|
|Italian Cuisine||Silhouette mode||Explorer's Eye x2|
|Ghost Town (Collection)||Night mode||Lantern x2|
|Polar Fauna||Morphs mode||Time Machine x5|
|Amusement Park (Collection)||Pairs mode||Dynamite x5|
|Wishmasters||Pieces mode||Torch x4|
|Grandmother's Needlework||Banish/Research "Scroll Eater" anomaly||Talisman Chest x1|
|Voodoo Magic||Banish/Research "Ghostly Mirror" anomaly||Dinner x1|
|Poker Combinations||Banish/Research "Mystic Smoke" anomaly||Tool Case x1|
|Photographer's Things||Curse mode||Lucky Dog's Chest x1|
|Animal Tracks||Banish/Research "Lost Time" anomaly||Lunch Chest x1|
